Accessibility at Brighter Nights

What we are working to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard most widely referenced in the United States, and it covers things like colour contrast, keyboard access, text alternatives for images, and clear page structure.

What is in place today

• One clear heading structure per page, so screen readers can navigate by heading.
• Text alternatives on images that carry meaning, and decorative artwork marked as decorative so it is not announced.
• Form fields with labels and autocomplete, so browsers and assistive technology can fill them.
• Tap targets sized for people who do not have fine motor control.
• Reduced motion honoured where the browser asks for it, so animation is not forced on anyone who has turned it off.
• A published phone number and email address on every page, because the fastest accessible route is often a person.

What we know is not finished

We would rather name these than claim a clean sheet.

• Some older pages carry small uppercase label text that is below our own contrast target.
• Seasonal animation on the home page is decorative and, while it respects a reduced motion setting, it is heavier than we would like.
• A small number of interactive tools have not yet had a full keyboard-only audit.

These are being worked through rather than parked.
