The callback leak

You didn’t lose it on the light.
You lost it on the drive back.

Four separate leaks open the moment a system fails: the cash for the trip, the crew day you can’t sell twice, the marketing that money never bought, and a service load that grows every year you keep installing.

1

Set your volume

2

If you already install permanent lighting

Sound familiar?

If you install one of the big-name track systems, you know the pattern: callbacks that eat a week you didn’t budget for, a manufacturer that’s hard to reach when a system actually fails, and a warranty that reads better than it pays out.

We’ll say this plainly: our systems have problems every now and then. What’s different is how rare that is, and what happens the moment one does.

Support that answers

Field training, phone support, manufacturer reps on the line, and the Masters of Lighting Academy behind every certified installer — not a ticket queue.

A warranty you can use

Register within 60 days and the gateway and power supply both carry a 3-year term. One simple activation, one simple claim.

The trip.

$929

One warranty trip, all in

Six line items hit the P&L, not the one you invoice.

  • Tech time door to door, truck, office, parts and freight
  • Most warranties cover the part — the trip is yours
  • Research puts a truck roll at $150–$500 hard cost

Report · Leak 02 · Capacity

The day.

13 days

Crew days lost to repairs in year one

A crew day only sells once. Repairs buy it first.

  • Every trip eats a measured fraction of an install day
  • Priced at your gross profit, not at revenue

$677,850

Five-year cost at your current volume

Every system you install joins a fleet you maintain forever.

  • Year five is five years of installed base failing at once
  • New sales and old service compete for the same trucks
  • Ends with the spec sheet that stops it happening again

Step 1 of 2 · Your volume

How much work, and how much comes back.

%

Wi‑Fi dropouts, controllers losing programming, failed strands, corroded splices.

Diagnose, swap, then go back when it fails again.

Most repairs are a one-man call. Pool enclosures and tall-ladder work take two — if that’s about half your service work, run it both ways and average it.

Step 2 of 2 · Your job math

What one crew day is worth to you.

Two installers on a 200 ft roofline is one day and about $6,000 of revenue. Put in your real numbers — including your out-the-door product cost per linear foot, everything you need on the truck for that install.

lin ft

A typical single-day, two-man roofline.

$/ ft

Industry runs $20–$40 installed.

$/ ft

Out the door — track, fixtures, controller, wire, connectors. Brighter Nights runs $11–$15.

Revenue per install$6,000
Product, out the door−$2,600
Install labor (2 techs × 8 hrs)−$720
Gross profit per crew day$2,680

This is what a repair day costs you. Not revenue — profit you had already earned the right to.

Leak 03 · The hidden multiplier

Same dollars. Opposite direction.

The three or four hundred dollars a service call burns is not dead money — it is redirected money. It comes out of the same account that buys your leads. One drives a truck backward to a job you already sold; the other buys the next one.

How you stop it

What to check before you spec anybody’s system.

Published terms and published specs — the line items that decide whether you are driving back. Ask any manufacturer, us included, to answer every row in writing.

What decides the callbackBrighter NightsHaven Lighting — per published terms
Control path Bluetooth mesh. Runs with no router and no internet. 9 Series is a Wi‑Fi enabled line; the app adds a controller using Wi‑Fi. The homeowner’s router becomes part of your install.
Transformer lock-in One line covers roofline, soffit, landscape, pool cage and sconce. The 9 Series smart transformer “works exclusively with our 9 Series line of lights.”
Mixing components Pre-wired, plug-and-play components across the line. Warranty “only applies when all components, including transformers and power supplies, have been provided by Haven Lighting. Substituting another manufacturer’s product and/or components will render the limited warranty completely void.”
Base warranty term Ask us for the current terms in writing before you spec. One year on products generally; five years on LED bulbs, drivers and electrical components in the L Series.
Who pays for the truck roll Get labor coverage in writing — from us or anyone. Remedy is repair, replace or refund. Liability “shall under no circumstances exceed the actual amount paid by you for the defective product,” with consequential and incidental damages excluded.
Getting the part replaced Ask about advance replacement and who ships. Original purchaser returns the product postage paid. If it tests good or falls outside the term, you have one week to pay return shipping or it is discarded.
Homeowner sells the house Confirm transferability before you promise it. Warranty periods “are not transferable to any other person (e.g. subsequent owner).”
Connections Pre-wired waterproof components, no field splice at every fixture. Field-spliced systems fail at the connector first — the most common failure point in low-voltage lighting.
Safety listing Ask us for the file number. We will send it. NEC 411.4 requires low-voltage lighting systems and Class 2 power sources to be listed. Get the certificate, not a logo on a box.
Training Masters of Lighting Academy certification, with hands-on field training. Compare curriculum and cadence, not showroom square footage.

Where the defaults come from

  • Truck roll cost of $150–$500 per dispatch, exceeding $1,000 once indirect and opportunity costs are counted — SightCall, Smarty and Blitzz field-service research.
  • Permanent lighting installed at $20–$40 per linear foot, $2,000–$8,000 typical project — HomeGuide; Trimlight published pricing.
  • Manufacturer warranties commonly exclude transportation, installation and labor — Alliance Outdoor Lighting published warranty.
  • Connections are the most common failure point in low-voltage lighting; more than half of repair calls trace to defects present at install — Tru-Scapes; TLC Incorporated.
  • NEC Article 411.4 requires low-voltage lighting systems and Class 2 power sources to be listed — NFPA 70; VOLT Lighting.
  • Home-services cost per lead averages about $90.92; construction customer acquisition averages roughly $610 per job; close rates run 20–45% by trade — Axis AI 2025; Watson Co. 2026.
  • Rework averages roughly 9–12% of construction cost — Construction Industry Institute.

This is an estimating tool, not an accounting statement. Every figure is a projection from the inputs you enter and published industry averages.
