What Pool Cage Lighting Actually Costs in Florida

By Austen Stucki, founder of Brighter Nights Lighting Technologies · 20 years in the trade, 2,000+ installations · Updated 13 September 2026

Most Florida pool cage lighting projects land between $4,000 and $8,000 installed, with the final number driven mostly by the perimeter of your screen enclosure, whether you light the uprights only or the uprights and the roofline of the cage, and how far the run is from a power source. A small lanai can come in under the bottom of that range. A large two-storey cage with a full roof grid can sit above it.

Nobody publishes this number, which is why every homeowner searching for it ends up on a page that says “contact us for a free quote.” Here is the actual shape of it.

What you are paying for

A permanent pool cage lighting system is not a strip of tape light. It is aluminum track fastened to the enclosure structure, sealed fixtures set at a fixed spacing inside that track, low voltage wire run through the frame where it cannot be seen, a transformer, and a controller that holds your scenes and schedules. The cost splits roughly like this on a typical job.

Line Share of the job What moves it
Track and fixtures About 45 to 55% Perimeter length, fixture spacing, whether the cage roof is lit
Labour About 30 to 40% Cage height, two storey versus single, how accessible the frame is
Power, controller, wire About 10 to 15% Distance to the panel, whether an outlet already exists nearby

The five things that actually change your number

1. Perimeter, not square footage

Lighting follows the frame, so a long narrow cage costs more than a square one of the same area. Measure the outside of the enclosure at ground level and that figure is most of your estimate.

2. Uprights only, or uprights plus the roof grid

Lighting only the vertical members gives you a warm wash around the pool deck and is the less expensive option. Adding the cage roofline gives you the ceiling glow that shows up in photographs, and typically adds a third to a half again on materials.

3. Cage height

A standard single storey cage is straightforward. A two storey or picture window cage means more time on ladders or lifts, and labour is the line that moves.

4. Distance to power

If there is an exterior outlet on the lanai wall, the transformer goes there and the run is short. If the nearest power is on the far side of the house, somebody is running conduit, and that is real money.

5. Whether you are lighting anything else at the same time

This is the one that surprises people in a good way. Because the pool cage system runs on the same app, the same mesh and the same controller family as roofline, soffit, landscape and deck and dock lighting, doing two systems on one visit costs meaningfully less than doing them on two visits a year apart. The truck roll, the power work and the controller are shared.

A note on how we can quote this at all. Brighter Nights Lighting Technologies is the manufacturer, and the systems are sold through stocking distributors and installed by certified contractors. The range above is the installed range those contractors work from. We do not sell to homeowners and we do not set a contractor’s final price.

What about the cheap options

There are three cheaper things people try first, and they are worth understanding rather than dismissing.

  • String lights across the cage. Forty dollars, looks good for a season, and the sun and the wind take them apart. Fine if you want it for a party.
  • An adhesive LED strip kit. A couple of hundred dollars online. The failure is almost always the adhesive and the connectors, in that order, and usually in the first summer. Screen enclosures move in the heat and the adhesive does not.
  • Solar spots clipped to the frame. Cheap and genuinely useful for a path. Not a lighting system, and no colour control or scheduling.

The reason a permanent system costs what it does is that it is fastened mechanically rather than stuck on, it is wired rather than battery fed, it is sealed at every connector, and somebody warranties it. If you are weighing a $250 kit against a $6,000 system, the honest comparison is not brightness. It is whether you want to do it again in eighteen months.

Does it add value to the house

Treat it the way you would treat outdoor kitchen or landscape lighting. It makes the space usable after dark, which in Florida is when the space is actually pleasant to be in, and that is the return most people are really buying. Anyone who quotes you a specific resale percentage is guessing.

How to get a real number for your home

Two ways. You can use the instant estimate tool, which works from your linear footage and gives a range straight away, or you can send photos through the photo estimate and have the footage read for you. Either way you are then matched with a certified installer in your area who confirms it on site.
