An outdoor sconce is a wall mounted light at an entry or on a post. The sconce system from Brighter Nights Lighting Technologies pairs a solid brass fixture with a color changing bulb and app control. The same fixture can show a soft white on a weeknight and full color for a holiday. BNLT manufactures the system and sells it through distribution nationwide. This guide covers what the system includes, how it holds up outdoors and how a homeowner gets one installed.
Each fixture has a solid brass body with a UV stable powder coat. Finishes are Matte Black, Antique Bronze and Pure White. The bulb is an MR16 HyperLux RGBW bulb with 600 lumens of output, rated for 40,000 hours. White is tunable from 2000K to 7500K. The system offers 16 million colors and more than 100 scenes. A pack includes the brass sconces in your finish, the bulbs, a Bluetooth mesh controller and all wiring and mounting hardware. Packs come in 4, 8 and 12 fixtures. See the sconce lighting system.
The sconce fixture is rated IP64 against driving rain and salt air. The fixture has also been through more than 500 hours of salt spray testing.
Sconces are ambience lighting. They set the mood at eye level and are not meant as task lighting. They suit front entries, and they are a natural add to a pool enclosure. On an enclosure the two systems do different jobs. Track lighting runs overhead on the beams, and sconces mount on the vertical posts. See the pool enclosure and lanai lighting system.
Control is Bluetooth mesh with a 200 foot range, so the sconces run without Wi-Fi. An optional Wi-Fi Gateway adds remote access. Sconces share one app with the other BNLT systems, so the whole property can be set together or one area at a time.
The fixture carries a 10 year warranty. The bulb and the controller carry 3 years, with an optional upgrade to 5 years. Registration within 60 days is a condition of coverage.
BNLT is the manufacturer. BNLT sells through distribution nationwide and does not install. Homeowners fill out one form, and BNLT matches them with a certified installer and an estimate. Contractors buy through a stocking distributor. A typical sconce install takes about one day.
